A trip to Nagytétényi Kastély (Castle), in Kastélypark (Castle Park), is still within the Budapest public transit system; and indeed, still within the city of Budapest itself.
For a drive-free experience, take the 33 bus from Móricz Zsigmond körtér (circle). It’s about an hour’s ride and can be tedious on a bus without AC. But you’re in it for the rough ride, right?
Get off on the Petőfi Sándor utca stop. I got off at the end of the line, two stops later and had an – unbeknownst at the time – a significant walk back. But I took some extra pictures of the village of Nagytétény.
If you’ll get off at the right stop, you’ll have a two or three minute walk to find the castle.
Having gotten you there, this is the least recommended sight on my itinerary. The grounds were neglected. The grass, overgrown. The castle was closed indefinitely (as of this writing in June 2025). Call before you set out.

Well there it is, the yellow palace. That’s as close as I could get. The day was a bust.
