Szentendre Hungary June 5 2025

Szentendre is a quaint but touristy town on the Danube, north of Budapest. It’s known for its baroque architecture, churches, colorful houses and narrow, cobbled streets. The main square, Fő Tér, and the alleyways around it are lined with art galleries, museums and shops. Just off the square, the 18th-century Greek Orthodox Blagovestenska Church has elaborate decor and an ornate partition screen.

Szentendre, too, can be visited by public transportation from Budapest. Take the H5 Metro from Batthyány tér, on the Buda side of Budapest. Szentendre is the last stop, so don’t worry about snoozing on this 41 minute ride. Same on return, Batthyány tér, is likewise the last stop.

The day I visited it was hot. Like 39 C hot. 102 F, kind of hot. That definitely called for a cold beer with lunch. Picture of lunch below, too. That’s fisherman’s soup or halászle. If you get a chance to visit Hungary, you’d be a fool to miss out on this local specialty.

And now, the pictures.

First some from Batthyány tér overlooking the Danube and the Parliament on the opposite side. Then yours truly and the Metro station.

And Szentendre.
