Here are pictures taken by my snorkeling guide. We went into the clearest of clear waters fed by melting glacier water filtered through the volcanic rocks. \u00deingvellir National Park is part of the Atlantic Ocean Ridge that runs through Iceland.

The \u00deingvellir area is part of a fissure zone running through Iceland, being situated on the tectonic plate boundaries of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The faults and fissures of the area make evident the rifting of the earth’s crust. It is there in the submerged part of the fissure zone we took our snorkeling excursion.

The water was truly clear. The sights were a wonder. At times I could touch both sides of the rift; touching North America and Europe at the same time. The life that clung to the rocks, so delicate, so ephemeral, left me feeling tranquil I have seldom ever felt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
